Plasti-dip is still in, right?

The flying saucer spare tire cover on the WifeJ Cruiser is in sad shape. I don’t have the air compressor for a real paint gun, and don’t want to buy a new replacement from the stealership . I’m planning on prepping it and using this Plasti-dip. I hope it will match the black plastic bumper and black  roof rack. Maybe it’ll just look like another cheap spray-can paint job, and I’ll have to buy a new one anyway. Seems like a lot of people are getting good results using this on trim pieces and even wheels. Any suggestions or advice?

I plasti-dipped my TDI wheels as a “temporary” test to see if I liked them black. It stayed on for several years when I could finally keep the wheels off for a few days. When I took the plasti-dip off the finish was ruined. Granted I didn’t try to revive the finish as they were being painted, but it didn’t look good.

I used it for the black pillar trim on my old Galant. I worked fun, but in heavy use areas like my driver door it did start to rub off after a year or so, but even then it looked waaay better than he old faded grey plastic. On a place like that, where you’re not touching it often it should work just fine.

Good to know. If I take it off it’ll be to repaint anyway....

Exactly. It’s okay if it really is temporary.

Also, Plati-Dip are a bunch of filthy liars when they say it’s easy to remove. It’s not. Not unless you paint several hundred layers on it. The guy who painted my wheels wasn’t too thrilled they were plasti-dipped because save for using gasoline, he hadn’t figured out an easy way to strip things of plasti-dip.

If you’re not doing plasti-dip for the sake of being able to remove it and just want it satin black, I’d recommend a can of SEM Trim Black. It’s meant for that sort of thing.

You were probably right. Not quite finished but I’m not happy with the results so far....

1. Plastidip was never “IN” it was for posers who couldn’t make up their minds or couldn’t afford proper paint.

2. They make actual paint for this purpose, use that instead.
